Data center cleaning: working across large IT facilities
Large data centers are cleaned by zone and stage. This keeps rack rows, technical support rooms and access routes clearly identified throughout the work.

Use zones rather than one floor-area figure
A data center includes more than server space. IT halls, access lobbies, delivery areas and technical support rooms differ in use and access. A zone plan reflects these differences. Assign a cleaning scope to each zone so supporting areas are not overlooked between large rack rows.
Make work stages identifiable
Identify stages by room, rack row or floor section. While one section is cleaned, required routes and adjacent operating areas need to remain available. Clear identification shows completed areas and ongoing work. It also helps other contractors understand where cleaning is taking place. Our data center cleaning service uses these stages to plan work across large rack areas.
Consider movement between zones
Material transport, packaging and nearby construction can introduce dirt into completed areas again. Include transitions between zones in planning. Consider the cleaning sequence alongside transport routes. A completed section offers little benefit if contaminated materials are subsequently carried through it.
Record progress by zone
A record of zone identifiers, completion dates and remaining areas makes large assignments manageable. It also shows whether raised floors or cabinet tops have been included. The record describes surfaces treated and documents progress in each zone.
FOR YOUR PLANNING
Your checklist at a glance
- Identify zones clearly on the site plan
- Plan stages together with required access routes
- Consider renewed contamination between zones
